Joint supplements for dogs?

dog joint pain1 Joint supplements for dogs?
talk nerdy to me asked:

Does anyone have some experience with dog joint supplements? Which ones do you prefer? Have you seen real results from your dogs taking them?

I have a 9 year lab/husky mix and I can tell that she is starting to feel some joint pain. She whines at night when she’s laying down and has a hard time getting herself up from the floor. I can see she is just really starting to slow down in general. Would a supplement help?

9 is nearing the end for your mix..

GENETICS plays a huge role in health…

also,, hopefully you do not let your dog sleep outside ,,, cold damp climates aggravate the condition

I always advise consulting a veterinarian before beginning ANY medication or supplement regimen. They can give you better advice than a bunch of strangers on a website. And a simple phone call is always free.

Having said that, allow me to tell you a brief story on my experience: I have a great dane with mild hip dysplasia. She was diagnosed by the veterinarian, who recommended a product called GlycoFlex, which is a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement. I began giving her the GlycoFlex every day, and after a couple of weeks I could tell she was walking better and having more fun at the park. She’s never had to be on any pain meds.

Joint supplements help dogs with arthritis or other infirmary issues. dogs can be treated the same as humans for inflammation or pain. There are a number of different types out there most have glucosamine and chondrointin in them. there are also injections called adequan which help a great deal in the beginning stages. Check with your vet to see if they have a preference and getting the injections would have to be done thru your vet. most of the websites that sell the stuff are all the same and have basically the same ingredients. Will they help your dog i’m not sure, will you feel better trying to help the dog i’m very sure you will. good luck

Well glucosamine only works in the beginning stages of arthritis. I would take your dog to the vets for an xray at this age. Dogs are masters at hiding pain. You may think you only have a joint problem, but you may have spine and hip issues you are not aware of. The xray will show how many problems you have and what stages you are in so the vet will know what meds to use. Choose tramadol as it is easiest on the organs. Look into VOM Treatments as they put the joints back where they should be with a few treatments. Maybe k laser is available where you live. You may also want to sign your dog up for swimming to help the joints.
